About Ms. Snowden
I grew up in Santa Monica and love the beach! I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology at UCLA and received a law degree at Loyola Law School. Prior to teaching, I was a trial lawyer in a large DTLA law firm. My teacher friends in Burbank Unified encouraged me to pursue teaching and I have never regretted my decision to leave law for the classroom. This year is my 27th year teaching and 26th year in Burbank Unified.
When I’m not busy being a history nerd, you will likely find me binge-watching a show on Netflix, reading books about current social issues, visiting random museums (the Wende Museum, Museum of Death, and the Museum of Jurassic Technology are among my faves), or going to the movies. I have three adult children ages 29, 27, and 23 who inspire me and keep me young. I became a grandma in December and love spending my weekends with my grandson, River. My daughters are advocates for social reform, racial justice, and equality. My son has a talent for computer programming and game design. I have three dogs that love to snuggle and sit in the sunshine. I married my best friend in 2017 who loves to binge-watch Netflix with me and spoil me with his cooking passion. I do my best to build lessons so my students see history, government, and current events from all perspectives. I move beyond the textbook to give my students a view that is not a single story. I take seriously my role in preparing my students for college and career and to be active participants in the civic process. I believe in the power of youth activism and hope my students are seen, heard, and feel that their voice can bring change. I strive to create engaging lessons that put my students in the driver's seat of their learning. I venture to generate enthusiasm in my students and bring out their best selves in my class. I look forward to getting to know my students, partnering with their families, and having a fantastic year! ~Ms. Snowden |
